And he cried mightily with a strong voice, saying, Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird.
This week Isaiah finishes his prophecies concerning Babylon. For the full scope of what the Bible says on this subject I recommend you read Jeremiah 50 and 51 as well (and of course Revelation 17 and 18).
I believe we have come to the place where the spirit of Babylon has leavened just about every part of society, including the church. Jesus said the kingdom of God… is like leaven, which a woman took and hid in three measures of meal, till the whole was leavened. (Luke 13:21) In the Bible, leaven is always a type of sin according to the law of expositional constancy. Using the corrupted Alexandrian codices Aleph, A, and B, (three measures of meal) the woman of Revelation 17 (Rome) has replaced the traditional text that the Protestant church has always used with her own text, thereby ushering in the age of apostasy. Yet the apostasy of the end times church is only one small aspect of this corrupting influence. As for the rest of the culture, it should be obvious even to the casual observer that this current world system is the MYSTERY BABYLON which the apostle John saw in his vision. Jeremiah wrote Babylon hath been a golden cup [*] in the LORD’s hand, that made all the earth drunken: the nations have drunken of her wine; therefore the nations are mad. (Jer 51:7) First, there is the literal wine of the Mass, which is blatant idolatry given it is worshiped as deity. Then there is the broader influence of Rome in non-religious ways. For example, Operation Mockingbird was a CIA program that used the worldwide influence of the media to shape public opinion. This control of the media continues to this day. The CIA is a predominantly Catholic organization. This is well known and has been thoroughly documented. Therefore, the CIA, an extension of the Catholic Church, has had a tremendous amount of worldwide influence through the media; therefore the nations are mad. Consider just one country, the UK. In another era Queen Victory used to look to her Bible for guidance, but now the government of the UK jails independent journalists like Tommy Robinson if they try to report on Muslim-led pedophile rings. Last week, police in the UK investigated a potential ‘hate crime’ when a transgender person was turned down for a role in a porno film. Meanwhile, the UK’s violent crime rate rose by 19% last year. Similar things could be cited for most other countries as well.
The extent to which Rome has corrupted the earth cannot be overstated. The second-highest-ranking figure in the Catholic Church behind Pope Francis, Cardinal Pell, was recently convicted of sexually abusing children. He is currently in prison in Australia. In his book, Inside the Closet of the Vatican (Bloomsbury Publishing Plc, 2019), award-winning journalist Frédéric Martel spends 555 pages describing the culture of the Vatican. His book has been published in eight languages and twenty countries. In the prologue, Martel wrote that “…homosexual desire first and foremost, is one of the main engines and wellsprings of Vatican life.” (1) In the epilogue he wrote, “Beyond the lies and the universal hypocrisy, the Vatican is also an unexpected place of experimentation: new ways of living as a couple are constructed there; new emotional relationships are tried out; new models of the family of the future are explored…” (2) Martel did not elaborate on what exactly he meant by that, but I do not think there is any question that there is a connection to the disintegration of the traditional family unit that we see in modern society, along with things like the current trend to make little boys in preschool paint their fingernails. The schemes of Babylon are coming to fruition.
It is not my intention to be a ‘Catholic basher’. I am merely pointing out that the Vatican does not represent the Christian faith and being Catholic cannot save you. Calling yourself a ‘Christian’ cannot save you either. Only a relationship with Jesus Christ can save you—a relationship based on the Bible and faith alone in Christ alone. You begin this relationship by receiving the free gift of everlasting life that Jesus offers to all who will come to Him. If you sincerely call on God to receive this gift, there will be a change in you. You will want to know Jesus. Jesus said If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
Father, give us understanding as we read thy word, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
1 Hear ye this, O house of Jacob, which are called by the name of Israel, and are come forth out of the waters of Judah, which swear by the name of the LORD, and make mention of the God of Israel, but not in truth, nor in righteousness.
2 For they call themselves of the holy city, and stay themselves upon the God of Israel; The LORD of hosts is his name.
This chapter is primarily meant for the Jews who settled in Babylon during the captivity. They identified with God but they were hypocrites. They identified with Jerusalem, but many of them did not want to return there after Cyrus released them. We will see how this applies to us at the end of the chapter.
3 I have declared the former things from the beginning; and they went forth out of my mouth, and I shewed them; I did them suddenly, and they came to pass.
4 Because I knew that thou art obstinate, and thy neck is an iron sinew, and thy brow brass;
5 I have even from the beginning declared it to thee; before it came to pass I shewed it thee: lest thou shouldest say, Mine idol hath done them, and my graven image, and my molten image, hath commanded them.
In Deuteronomy 8, God told Israel that they would prosper and do well after they entered the Promised Land. He told them this success would be because of Him and his goodness toward them. Over and over, God warned Israel that He would scatter them among the heathen if they turned to idols. Moses said it would happen in Deuteronomy 28, but God also said He would regather them from the ends of the earth back into the Promised Land in the last days:
That then the LORD thy God will turn thy captivity, and have compassion upon thee, and will return and gather thee from all the nations, whither the LORD thy God hath scattered thee.
Again, God said all this before they even entered the Promised Land. We have been witnessing the fulfillment of Deuteronomy 30:3 for the last hundred years as Jews from all over the world have been returning to Israel.
6 Thou hast heard, see all this; and will not ye declare it? I have shewed thee new things from this time, even hidden things, and thou didst not know them.
7 They are created now, and not from the beginning; even before the day when thou heardest them not; lest thou shouldest say, Behold, I knew them.
8 Yea, thou heardest not; yea, thou knewest not; yea, from that time that thine ear was not opened: for I knew that thou wouldest deal very treacherously, and wast called a transgressor from the womb.
9 For my name’s sake will I defer mine anger, and for my praise will I refrain for thee, that I cut thee not off.
10 Behold, I have refined thee, but not with silver; I have chosen thee in the furnace of affliction.
11 For mine own sake, even for mine own sake, will I do it: for how should my name be polluted? and I will not give my glory unto another.
12 Hearken unto me, O Jacob and Israel, my called; I am he; I am the first, I also am the last.
13 Mine hand also hath laid the foundation of the earth, and my right hand hath spanned the heavens: when I call unto them, they stand up together.
14 All ye, assemble yourselves, and hear; which among them hath declared these things? The LORD hath loved him [Cyrus]: he will do his pleasure on Babylon, and his arm shall be on the Chaldeans.
15 I, even I, have spoken; yea, I have called him: I have brought him, and he shall make his way prosperous.
16 Come ye near unto me, hear ye this; I have not spoken in secret from the beginning; from the time that it was, there am I: and now the Lord GOD, and his Spirit, hath sent me [Jesus].
17 Thus saith the LORD, thy Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel; I am the LORD thy God which teacheth thee to profit, which leadeth thee by the way that thou shouldest go.
18 O that thou hadst hearkened to my commandments! then had thy peace been as a river, and thy righteousness as the waves of the sea:
19 Thy seed also had been as the sand, and the offspring of thy bowels like the gravel thereof; his name should not have been cut off nor destroyed from before me.
20 Go ye forth of Babylon, flee ye from the Chaldeans, with a voice of singing declare ye, tell this, utter it even to the end of the earth; say ye, The LORD hath redeemed his servant Jacob.
21 And they thirsted not when he led them through the deserts: he caused the waters to flow out of the rock for them: he clave the rock also, and the waters gushed out.
22 There is no peace, saith the LORD, unto the wicked.
Just as God told his chosen people, the Jews, to leave Babylon (v 20), in these last days He is telling his people the world over, both Jew and Gentile, to leave the Babylonian system of the new world order.
And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her [MYSTERY BABYLON], my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues.
He has made a way of escape for us if we want it. (1 Thess 4:16) I sometimes wonder though, how many Christians are too comfortable here in Babylon to be bothered with heaven? Modern society has many creature comforts. The possibilities are endless for those who can afford all that the world has to offer. The only problem is it is all going to burn. In closing, on September 11th, 1990, George H.W. Bush rallied an international coalition to come to the aid of Kuwait. During his speech, he introduced the new world order:
Out of these troubled times, our fifth objective — a new world order — can emerge: a new era — freer from the threat of terror, stronger in the pursuit of justice, and more secure in the quest for peace. [Emphasis added.]
Ask yourself, how is that working out? Are we freer from the threat of terror? Are we stronger in the pursuit of justice? Are we more secure in the quest for peace? The new world order promises great things but delivers only lies. Listen to the voice calling from heaven, and come out of her. If you truly are a Christian it’s time to prepare to meet the Lord.
Father, help us to be in the world but not of the world. Help us to be salt and not to lose our savor. Help us to be the light that You have called us to be. Keep us from being conformed to this world, but rather let us be transformed by the renewing of our minds. Help us to walk by faith and not by sight. Please account us worthy to stand before your Son, and escape all these things that shall come to pass. We pray this in Jesus’ name. Amen.
