John 6:42-51 -The Bread of Life Part 5

Dear Friends,

This week, Jesus continues with his sermon on the bread of life. Give us understanding, Father, as we read thy word, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

John 6:42-54
42 And they said, Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? how is it then that he saith, I came down from heaven?

They were, of course, wrong. The genealogy of Jesus in Matthew 1 lists begat after begat beginning with Abraham until it gets to Joseph in verse 16, but then there is no begat. It merely says that Joseph was the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ. Joseph did not beget Jesus. God did.

43 Jesus therefore answered and said unto them, Murmur not among yourselves.
44 No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.
45 It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God. Every man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned of the Father, cometh unto me.
46 Not that any man hath seen the Father, save he which is of God, he hath seen the Father.
47 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.
48 I am that bread of life.
49 Your fathers did eat manna in the wilderness, and are dead.
50 This is the bread which cometh down from heaven, that a man may eat thereof, and not die.
51 I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.

This verse speaks of both the crucifixion and the word of God. (See below.)

52 The Jews therefore strove among themselves, saying, How can this man give us his flesh to eat?
53 Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you.
54 Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day.
John 6:42-54

John’s writings are rich with spiritual codes. The keys to these codes can always be found in the Bible. For example, in Revelation 12, John sees a woman clothed in the sun with the moon under her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve stars. The key to this code is found in Genesis 39:9-11. Jacob (Israel) is the sun, Rachel is the moon, and the 12 sons, or twelve tribes, are the twelve stars. Therefore the woman is Israel.

The chapter before us is no different. The key to what Jesus is telling us about eating his flesh and drinking his blood is also found in the Book of Genesis:

9 And the chief butler told his dream to Joseph, and said to him, In my dream, behold, a vine was before me;
10 And in the vine were three branches: and it was as though it budded, and her blossoms shot forth; and the clusters thereof brought forth ripe grapes:
11 And Pharaoh’s cup was in my hand: and I took the grapes, and pressed them into Pharaoh’s cup, and I gave the cup into Pharaoh’s hand.
12 And Joseph said unto him, This is the interpretation of it: The three branches are three days:
13 Yet within three days shall Pharaoh lift up thine head, and restore thee unto thy place: and thou shalt deliver Pharaoh’s cup into his hand, after the former manner when thou wast his butler.
14 But think on me when it shall be well with thee, and shew kindness, I pray thee, unto me, and make mention of me unto Pharaoh, and bring me out of this house:
15 For indeed I was stolen away out of the land of the Hebrews: and here also have I done nothing that they should put me into the dungeon.
16 When the chief baker saw that the interpretation was good, he said unto Joseph, I also was in my dream, and, behold, I had three white baskets on my head:
17 And in the uppermost basket there was of all manner of bakemeats for Pharaoh; and the birds did eat them out of the basket upon my head.
18 And Joseph answered and said, This is the interpretation thereof: The three baskets are three days:
19 Yet within three days shall Pharaoh lift up thy head from off thee, and shall hang thee on a tree; and the birds shall eat thy flesh from off thee.
20 And it came to pass the third day, which was Pharaoh’s birthday, that he made a feast unto all his servants: and he lifted up the head of the chief butler and of the chief baker among his servants.
21 And he restored the chief butler unto his butlership again; and he gave the cup into Pharaoh’s hand:
22 But he hanged the chief baker: as Joseph had interpreted to them.
Genesis 40:9-22

The butler and the baker are each a type of both the Holy Spirit and Christ. A butler is a servant who opens the door (John 10:3 et al); a baker makes bread. (John 6:11-35 et al) The vine and the bread are both types of Christ. Jesus called Himself both the true vine (John 15:1) and the true bread (John 6:32). The wine in the butler’s dream speaks of the blood of Christ and its power to save. Like the butler, who was released from prison after three days, Jesus rose again on the third day, through the power of the Spirit. (Rom 8:11) The bread in the baker’s dream speaks of the word of God — three baskets containing the law, the prophets, and the New Testament. In the Genesis passage above, the bread in the upper basket is equated to the flesh of the baker. Just as the baker was hanged on a tree, so was the Lord Jesus Christ. Just as the baker’s bread is likened to his flesh in the Genesis passage (v 19), Jesus said the breadis my flesh (v 51). Therefore, the meaning of the flesh in our text is twofold: It speaks of both the crucifixion and the word of God. When Jesus performed his first miracle, turning water into wine (John 2), He was illustrating how the blood is to be applied, ie through faith in the word. Water is a type of both the word (Eph 5:26) and the Spirit (John 7:39); wine is a type of both the Spirit (Eph 5:18) and the blood:

…..The sceptre shall not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet, until Shiloh [Messiah] come; and unto him shall the gathering of the people be.
…..Binding his foal unto the vine, and his ass’s colt unto the choice vine; he washed his garments in wine, and his clothes in the blood of grapes:
Genesis 49:10, 11

Just as Jesus turned water into wine for his first miracle, Moses turned water into blood for his first miracle. The Bible says we are saved by faith in the blood of Christ. (Rom 3:25). The Bible says we are saved through faith in the word of God (Rom 10:9-17). Since bread is a type of the word (Matt 4:4 et al), and since the words of Jesus are spirit (v 63; cf Eph 6:17), it follows that when Jesus speaks of eating his flesh He is telling us to eat his word (ie read it) to feed our souls and fellowship with the Holy Ghost. Euchlid’s first Common Notion is Things which equal the same thing also equal one another. Therefore, the types and pictures that Jesus is using in this chapter could be thought of as follows:

flesh of Christ = bread = the Spirit = the word
blood of Christ = wine = water = the Spirit = the word

Therefore, holy communion is a symbolic expression of our faith in Christ and not to be taken lightly (1 Cor 11:30), but still symbolic nonetheless. Jesus is using hyperbole in this chapter to impress upon us just how important it is to abide in his word. It is impossible to overstate the depth of the riches in the word of God. I don’t know how one could possibly describe just how beneficial, profitable, and sweet to the taste the word of God is, but the following attempt by the translators of the KJV comes as close as anything I have ever seen.

From the Letter of the Translators to the Reader, 1611:

Men talk much of εἰρεσιώνη, how many sweet and goodly things it had hanging on it; of the Philosopher’s stone, that it turneth copper into gold; of Cornucopia, that it had all things necessary for food in it; of Panaces the herb, that it was good for all diseases; of Catholicon the drug, that it is instead of all purges; of Vulcan’s armour, that it was an armour of proof against all thrusts and all blows, &c. Well, that which they falsely or vainly attributed to these for bodily good, we may justly and with full measure ascribe unto the Scripture for spiritual. It is not only an armour, but also a whole armoury of weapons, both offensive and defensive; whereby we may save ourselves, and put the enemy to flight. It is not an herb, but a tree, or rather a whole paradise of trees of life, which bring forth fruit every month, and the fruit thereof is for meat, and the leaves for medicine. It is not a pot of Manna or a cruse of oil, which were for memory only, or for a meal’s meat or two; but as it were a shower of heavenly bread sufficient for a whole host, be it never so great, and as it were a whole cellar full of oil vessels; whereby all our necessities may be provided for, and our debts discharged. In a word, it is a panary [pantry] of wholesome food against fenowed [corrupted] traditions; a physician’s shop (St Basil calleth it) of preservatives against poisoned heresies; a pandect [compendium] of profitable laws against rebellious spirits; a treasury of most costly jewels against beggarly rudiments; finally, a fountain of most pure water springing up unto everlasting life. And what marvel? the original thereof being from heaven, not from earth; the author being God, not man; the inditer, the Holy Spirit, not the wit of the Apostles or Prophets; the penmen, such as were sanctified from the womb, and endued with a principal portion of God’s Spirit; the matter, verity, piety, purity, uprightness; the form, God’s word, God’s testimony, God’s oracles, the word of truth, the word of Salvation, &c.; the effects, light of understanding, stableness of persuasion, repentance from dead works, newness of life, holiness, peace, joy in the Holy Ghost; lastly, the end and reward of the study thereof, fellowship with the saints, participation of the heavenly nature, fruition of an inheritance immortal, undefiled, and that never shall fade away: Happy is the man that delighteth in the Scripture, and thrice happy that meditateth in it day and night.

The most glorious truth contained in the word is the fact that Jesus loves us so much that He gave Himself for us as a sacrifice for our sins. Father, thank You for your pure and perfect word, preserved for all eternity, which is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness. Your word is exalted above all thy name. Give us the grace to honor it and cleave to it, to trust in it and to follow it in meekness and obedience. We ask this in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Coronavirus Update: On Monday, May 9, Tucker Carlson broke the news that was reported over a year ago in the alternative press (which I also posted over a year ago on this blog in Coronavirus Part 1): The news that Anthony Fauci funneled funding for gain-of-function research to a Wuhan bio lab which in turn leaked the novel coronavirus. Seven years ago, I wrote about this in Dragon Slayer Jesus Christ, ie the importance of looking to the alternative press for information, which is always far ahead of the curve compared to the mainstream media. For years, Fox News has posted Tucker’s reports to their website, but they chose not to post Tucker’s Monday night report. The report can be seen here. On Tuesday, Senator Rand Paul confronted Fauci during a Senate hearing, essentially charging him for his culpability in the biggest scandal of the century. Concerns over the ‘vaccine’ itself are getting weirder and weirder. If the things people are reporting in the short video linked here sound too hard to believe, consider this interview with Dr Carrie Madej.

Prophecy Update: Immediately after Biden was inaugurated on January 20th, he canceled the Keystone Pipeline. More recently, we have seen the cyberattack shutdown of the West Coast Pipeline, which corresponds with the ‘cyber pandemic’ Cyber Polygon drills — one of the classic markers of a false-flag event. (The second round of these drills is coming up on July 9th.) Governor Whitmer is attempting to shut down the Enbridge pipeline in Michigan. Refineries and pipelines in other parts of the country are being shut down as well. In other words, we are less than four months into the American coup that was the 2020 election and we are already seeing continued concerted attacks on our energy infrastructure. Agenda 2030 is moving forward perfectly. There is so much happening that I could not possibly comment on all of the prophetic aspects of current events, but these attacks appear to me to be nothing less than acts of war as the specter of war is materializing more so each day. Military leaders in both France and the US are warning that current policies will lead to war. In Israel, war has already begun. Meanwhile, persecution is steadily increasing with pastors being arrested but the really big news is that all these signs indicate, and the Holy Ghost bears witness, that the rapture of the church is imminent. Plan your life like it isn’t, but prepare your heart like it is. (Matt 24:36)
